Brief Bio: After joining Forbes’ sales department in 2001, she became the fourth generation in her family to join the publishing world. She is EVP (Executive Vice President) of Forbes Media, and serves as president and publisher of ForbesWoman (2008), a multi-media platform that serves women in leadership and business. She is also the host of the video series, “Women to Watch” and “Success with Maria Forbes.” She says, “we felt (there was) an opportunity to go on a level deeper and engage with the community about the unique dynamics of women in business.” She saw a deepening need to connect and introduce influential women with one another. “If you can’t see it, you can’t be it.” Even with the success of her predecessors, she values the effort and sacrifice it takes to achieve your goals.
“NO GREAT SUCCESS OR ACHIEVEMENT OCCURRED WITHOUT SETBACKS AND FAILURE ALONG THE WAY.”
Her recognition of the power of story, lead her to spearhead the creation of the Forbes Women’s Summit, in 2013. Business women, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, and groundbreakers from the world gather; to share successes, strategies, and failures. Her desire is to pull a dynamic group of women together who are doing dynamic things in their field.
Pearl of wisdom: “The risk of no aspiration is much greater than failure.”
Winning Fact: “The first step in achieving goals is creating goals.”
Golden Rules: “Nobody else is thinking about you twenty-four hours a day. You are the only one who knows what you want. People aren’t mind readers. If you don’t ask for what you want, you won’t get it.”
