I love making things. I’m not always great about sharing the things I make. I’m not a cold plunger. I’m more of a comfortable lavender scented bath soaker. Some people can seemingly jump into any situation, like doing a cannon ball in the pool of life. I envy those people. Even at 6yrs old, my style would be to stand on the steps until my feet, then legs, belly and arms adjusted to the chilly public pool temp.
When it comes to promoting the latest episodes of my podcast Don’t Cut Your Own Bangs, I’ve been dipping my toes when I probably should’ve been shouting, “CANNON BALL!” But, here we are. I’m getting there, one inconsistent step at at a time.
With that in mind, I decided to bring back a recent episode (that I did not promote) that sums up this experience perfectly.
Failure. Getting it wrong. Isn’t that really what it all comes down to? What if I do this thing, I put myself out there, and it’s a total flop. Here’s a little clip from this episode:
Don’t Cut Your Own Bangs is back (she whispered)😅
This is a clip from episode 162 from my latest series with my dear friend and life coach Juanita Molano Parra, lovingly titled “What if I fail?”
For the last few weeks I’ve been releasing new episodes. They’ve been my version of a soft open. 2023 was a big year for the podcast and after having my second baby I wasn’t sure I could keep up with the 2023 version of me. And the truth was, I couldn’t. So, I didn’t.
I stopped. Paused. Got interested in recording again. Then, procrastination set in, and my old well worn companions – doubt, fear, and worry – greeted me with open arms and made rewatching old seasons of the Great British Bake Off sound like a great idea.
A month later I could finally admit to myself I wanted to dust off my mic and try this again. A couple months after that to figure out what I wanted to say, and another month to acknowledge I didn’t want to do it alone (thanks Juanita 😘).
5 episodes in, and I’m ready to share it. Listen wherever to catch your podcasts.
This clip is from episode 162, but if you want to catch up, start at episode 158 👋🏻. #dontcutyourownbangspodcast
And if you’re still reading, I’m glad you’re here. Enjoy listening. And it’s never too late to start over.
